Founding director Todd Gerhart leaves SAS board

  Todd Gerhart resigned from the SAS board in November last year, citing increased time pressure at work (he is a senior federal lawyer) and other personal commitments. He had been on the board of the society continuously since its foundation in 2004, occupying both the treasurer and society secretary role for most of that time. The society is greatly indebted to Todd for his long service. Kevin McLane, another founding director of SAS, who has played a major role in climbing access issues since the 1980s, writes: “Todd's legal skill guided the SAS into its formation … reliable, voice of good sense, 15 years of service, good humoured, ever-present, sharp.“Todd also served for many years on the Smoke Bluffs advisory committee on behalf of climbers, working on difficult issues like the proposed land transfer of the FMCBC lands to the municipality. Brian Moorhead, another founding director, writes: “I chaired the committee during the early days during which many decisions were made that  essentially set the path for the park we know today. Obviously, there was a fair amount of internal battling over some items … There were times I felt like quitting, but having Todd  providing steadfast support and advice was crucial.”Travis McClinchey, a chartered accountant, took over the treasurer role in January 2018. Caitlin MacDonell,  a barrister and solicitor, took over the society secretary role in January 2019.
