Rockfall Update July 28th 2021

Grand Wall Closure Update:

As announced yesterday, the closure has been expanded after the massive rockfall in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The closure of routes has been expanded further right and now also encompasses all the routes from The Black Dyke to Deadend Dihedral. Popular climbs affected include multipitches Sunset Strip and Millenium Falcon as well as the classic single pitch Arrowroot.

The bouldering closure has also been massively extended and includes all the following areas:

Survivor, Thighmaster, Viper, Black Dyke, Octagon, Superfly, Lipsmack, Undertow, Mantel Madness, and Gilligan’s Island. This obviously represents a large chunk of the best bouldering in Squamish, but there is a very real risk of further rockfall. Judging by the damage to the forest and boulders in the runout zone it’s incredibly lucky this happened in the middle of the night. We will work with BC Parks to provide the community with information as they assess the area but we ask everyone to be patient and stay away from the closed areas.

Thanks again to Marc Bourdon for providing the image of the Grand Wall and letting us use his map of the Grand Wall bouldering area.
