Now Hiring: Economic Impact Surveyor

The Squamish Access Society is hiring a contract surveyor to assist with a seasonal project measuring the economic impact of climbing in the Squamish area. This work will help strengthen our advocacy for maintaining and improving access to climbing areas.

Position Summary

You’ll be responsible for conducting short, in-person surveys with climbers at crags around Squamish, between Murrin Park and Chek Canyon. The surveys will use a questionnaire prepared by an economist, and are designed to capture information about usage patterns and spending.

Compensation: ~$30/hr, including incentives for fulfilling the whole term

Date: Starting as soon as possible, finishing in late October

Type: Independent contractor

Total hours: Up to 100 hours over the course of the season

Requirements: Reliable transportation, flexible schedule, good communication skills, and comfort approaching people in public outdoor settings.

Surveying Schedule

We are aiming for around 30 shifts of roughly 3 hours, with a max total of 100 hours, spread throughout the climbing season between April and October. Shifts will be distributed evenly between weekdays and weekends, with a higher concentration during peak climbing months in July and August. A good spread is essential to ensure data quality through randomized sampling, but we can work with you to accomodate any plans ahead of time. You will need to report results at the end of each shift.

Additional Information

Please note, this is an independent contractor position. The successful applicant will be responsible for managing their own taxes, insurance, and any applicable WorkSafeBC coverage.

How to Apply

Please send a short cover letter (can be in the body of the email) and resume outlining your interest and any relevant experience to info@squamishaccess.ca. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
